And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth. 1 Sam 3:10 (kjvlite)
Note bene! It is the ‘servant’ of the Lord that was listening and hearing. As Christians, we are to be God’s servants. So we must be listening for God’s voice and obey it (James 1:2, Rom 10:17, 14’18, Col 3:22, 3:24, Psalm 95:7, Heb 3:7, 12:28, Matt 7:24, 11:15, John 13:17). 👂😃
Since ancient times no one has heard, and no ear has perceived, and no eye has seen a God besides you, who works for him who waits for him. Isa 64:4 (nheb)
Of all the gods people choose to follow, there is only one God that works on our behalf if we worship Him and wait on Him (Lam 3:25-26, Psalm 31:19, 1 Cor 1:7, 2:9, Rom 8:25). “In Touch Ministries”, 9-29-20 gave three interesting points on “waiting”:
God may be preparing us to receive His blessings.
Our Father is often teaching us to have confidence in Him.
The Lord will sometimes withhold a blessing to protect us. Keep waiting on the Lord (Psalm 25:5). 😊
If you keep my commandments, you’ll abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. John 15:10 (isv)
…that by keeping the commandments of Christ, his disciples and followers show that they love him, and continue in their affection to him: (Gill commentary). God only gave us two commandments, love God and love others (Matt 22:37, Deut 6:5, 10:12). We do two very important things when we obey these two commands:
we show God how much we love Him (John 14:15, 14:21, 1 John 2:5, 5:3),
and we demonstrate God’s love to others (2 Cor 2:6, Rom 2:19, Eph 5:8, Phil 2:15, 1 Thess 5:5). So, keep honoring God and shining brightly. 👼😎
