2 Timothy 4:4

12-4-20

And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 2 Tim 4:4 (kjv)

There is only one TRUTH in this life and that is God (1 Cor 2:5, John 18:37, 17:17, 14:6, 1 John 4:6, Heb 4:12).
Once people reject the Truth or decide for themselves what the truth is, what is there? What is left? What does it produce?
Fables, myths, manmade wisdom, opinons, unsound teaching, rituals and religions (1 Tim 1:4, 4:7, Titus 1:14, 2 Peter 1:16, Pro 26:12, 12:19, 1 Cor 1:20, 3:19).
All of which are worthless (Pro 3:7, 18:2, 1 Cor 3:19, Job 5:13) in God’s eyes. ๐Ÿ˜‘

Choose carefully to whom you will listen: man or God. Your eternal soul is at stake. ๐Ÿ˜”

Matthew 20:27

12-3-20

And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: Matt 20:27 (kjv)

It takes humility to serve others since we must set our pride aside to do so.
Jesus set the example that He wants us to follow (Matt 11:29, 20:28, 23:11, Mark 9:35, 10:43, John 13:14, Phil 2:5-8).
Humility (thinking of others) precludes the insidious intrusion of pride into our life.
It doesn’t get any clearer: God wants us to be humble! ๐Ÿ˜”
Helping others, being generous, praying for others, even giving an encouraging word or text to someone are ways to be humble (Psalm 35:13): all of which honor, worship and glorify God. ๐Ÿค—

Psalm 105:1

12-2-20

Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name, and make his deeds known among the people. Psalm 105:1 (isv)

Thanking God for everything glorifies and honors Him. It is a way to worship God.
If we get into the habit of always thanking God, we won’t be so easily distracted by satan.
When we share our blessings with others, we are promoting God’s kingdom.
Some of the benefits of gratitude to God are: * it refocuses our attention onto God,

  • it relieves our anxiety and fears,
  • it refreshes our relationship with God,
  • and it strengthens our faith, (1 Thess 5:18, Col 3:17, Eph 5:20, Phil 4:6, Heb 13:15, Psalm 26:7, 28:7, 1 Peter 3:15). ๐Ÿ˜Š

2 Corinthians 1:8

12-1-20

For we do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, about the suffering we experienced in Asia. We were so crushed beyond our ability to endure that we even despaired of living. 2 Cor 1:8 (isv)

When you are in the depths of despair, to whom will you turn for help (Jer 17:5, 17:7, 2 Cor 1:9)?

Remember, only Jesus can provide true peace of mind and strength to endure your trials (Isa 26:3, Psalm 85:8, 1 Cor 10:13, Col 1:11, Rom 15:13, 15:33, Phil 4:7). ๐Ÿ˜Š

Matthew 5:44

11-30-20

But I say to you, love your enemy and pray for those who persecute you, Matt 5:44 (net)

Jesus tells us to “love your enemy”. But what is “love”? It is not a feeling, it is not an emotion: it is something you do. It is an action.
That means:

  • we forgive them when they offend us (Luke 23:34, Acts 7:60, 1 Peter 2:23).
  • We help them when they need it (Rom 12:20-21 Pro 25:21, Luke 6:27).
  • We pray for them (Matt 5:44, Luke 6:27). ๐Ÿ˜Œ

1 Timothy 2:8

11-29-20

I desire therefore that the men in every place pray, lifting up holy hands without anger and doubting. 1 Tim 2:8 (nheb)

What does paul mean by “holy hands”? Basically, we must first let go of anything that quenches our spirit and would come between us and God: anger, doubt, guilt, fear, worldly distractions or unconfessed sin (Pro 6:16-19, Rom 8:1, 12:2, Jas 1:6, Eph 4:31). ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿคท

Jeremiah 17:7

11-28-20

Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, and whose confidence is in the LORD. Jer 17:7 (nheb)

Who will you trust: God or man (Jer 17:5, Psalm 4:5, 20:7, Isa 31:1)?
When Christians put their trust in a man they are making the same mistake the Jews made when they demanded that God give them a king; most of whom (33/38) were evil (2nd Kings). ๐Ÿ˜‘
Only when we put all our trust in God will we truly be free and blessed (John 8:32, Rom 8:2, 8:36, Psalm 2:12, Pro 16:20). โ˜บ๏ธ

Mark 8:36

11-27-20

For what does it profit a person to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? Mark 8:36 (nheb)

It’s very sad to know that those who choose to live this life for: self, money or pleasure instead of for God, will hear the four most terrifying words in the universe when they stand before Jesus (Matt 7:23, 25:41-46). โ˜น๏ธ

Hosea 4:1

11-26-20

Hear this message from the LORD, people of Israel (America). Indeed, the LORD brings a charge against the people who live in the landโ€” for there is no truth and no gracious love or knowledge of God in the land. Hosea 4:1 (isv)

Not only are we currently in a “post truth era” which implies that we now accept lies as the norm, but we have turned against God (2 Tim 3:1-5, 4:3-4, Isa 1:4) for: causes, politics, self, money and hedonism.
This will not bode well for us (Gal 6:7, 1 Cor 6:10, Matt 24:12, Psalm 9:19-20). ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ
The church must humble itself, return to its first love (Rev 2:4, Psalm 51:12-13, Zech 1:3, 2 Chron 7:14) and pray earnestly and fevently for our country (Jas 5:16, Psalm 10:17, Pro 15:29). ๐Ÿ˜”
“How can he (Hosea) prophesy something like this when we have churches on every corner? The reality is that they do not know God. They know about God. They believe in the existence of a god, but they are not really acquainted with God (2 Tim 3:5). They do not really love God or fear Him because, if they did, the sins we see occurring so rampantly in our society would not be happening. If they truly feared Him, they would have enough respect to restrain themselves, regardless of what anybody else (said or) did”. “The Berean”, 11-18-20.

1 Kings 21:20b

11-26-20

โ€ฆbecause you have sold yourself to do evil in the eyes of the Lord.โ€ 1 Kings 21:20b

In todayโ€™s reading we hear of one of Ahabโ€™s most dastardly acts. And his greed gets magnified by Jezebelโ€™s drive for power. Along with this we also see the cooperation of the elders and nobles and the lies of two scoundrels. Itโ€™s as if the whole government is participating in this plot to kill an innocent man and steal his land.
โ€ฆSometimes we have to be sufficiently disgusted with our sinful ways in order to gain an appetite for grace. Sometimes it takes an honest assessment of the corruption and idolatry of our leaders to make us hunger afresh for the goodness of our true King, Jesus. “Today Devotional”, 11-17-20.
When will we become disgusted with the sinful ways of our country and return to our first love – Jesus (Rev 2:4, Psalm 51:12)? โ˜น๏ธ

Romans 8:1

11-24-20

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Rom 8:1 (net)

Jesus is the only one who can forgive our sins (John 14:6, 11-25, 17:3, Rom 8:34, Acts 4:12).
So, ask Him into your life and be welcomed into heaven as a child of God (Jas 1:18, 1 John 3:1-2, Rom 8:14, Gal 3:26). ๐Ÿ˜‡

Ephesians 4:18-19

11-22-20

They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of their ignorance and hardness of heart. 19 Since they have lost all sense of shame, they have abandoned themselves to sensuality and practice every kind of sexual perversion (and greed) without restraint. Eph 4:18-19 (isv)

This is a typical result when a country turns its back on truth (God) (Matt 13:15, Rom 1:21, Isa 44:18-19, Pro 29:18).
The less Christian influence there is in society, the lower the moral standards are. (Bridgeway commentary).
This is why God expects His children to return to their first love (Rev 2:4, 2 Cron 7:14).
So, unless Christians humble themselves and begin to brightly shine God’s light of truth, our country will go the way of Sodom and Gamorrah (1 Thess 5:5). ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

Proverbs 4:23

11-22-20

Guard your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life. Pro 4:23 (nheb)

The things we watch and hear will affect our spirit, our character and our witness (Luke 6:45, Matt 12:34, 15:19, Mark 7:21-24, 1 Cor 15:23).
This is why God warns us to be careful whom we choose to follow (Josh 24:15, Deut 11:26-28, 1 Kings 18:21, Psalm 62:7-9, Pro 3:31, 23:17, 24:1-2, 1 John 3:8). ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

Judges 17:6b

11-21-20

โ€ฆevery man did that which was right in his own eyes. Judges 17:6b (nheb)

This appears to be the situation developing here in the U.S where truth has become relative to each person’s opinion instead of absolute in God’s truth.
“He was his own governor, and what he did he said was right; and, by his cunning and strength, defended his conduct. When a man’s own will, passions, and caprice, are to be made the rule of law (Gen 6:5), society is in a most perilous and ruinous state” (Clarke commentary).
Man’s wisdom is foolishness (1 Cor 1:20, 3:19-20) and only allows satan to control us (Jer 17:9, Matt 15:19, 24:12, Rom 3:10-12, Eph 4:27).
We must return to our first love – Jesus (Rev 2:4) and begin praying for our country earnestly and fervently (James 5:16b). ๐Ÿ˜”

2 Chronicles 7:14

11-20-20

if my people (Christians), who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Cron 7:14 (nheb)

Instead of allowing satan to distract us from God’s truth with his worldly lies (politics, causes, social warriors, pundits etc.), perhaps we should refocus our hearts and minds on God’s will (Luke 8:14).
Our country desperately needs us to humble ourselves and begin to earnestly and fervently pray for God to heal it! (James 5:16b, Rom 12:11, 1 Peter 1:22a). ๐Ÿ˜”

1 Corinthians 2:7

11-19-20

Instead we speak the wisdom of God, hidden in a mystery, that God determined before the ages for our glory. 1 Cor 2:7 (net)

What is this mystery?
Simply put, it is God’s plan for everyone to become a part of His family in heaven.
The only way to do that is through His son Jesus (John 14:6, 1:4, 1:17, 10:9, 11:25, Eph 2:18, 3:12, Heb 10:19).
God’s truth is the ONLY truth. That’s why God’s plan is so mysterious.
Humans think their truth is sufficient, so they create their own gods and religions to impress God trying to earn entry into heaven.

Sadly, nothing we do apart from faith in Jesus will impress God. People who believe otherwise, believe a lie. (John 14:6, Matt 7:21, Jer 14:14, 27:15). ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

Ephesians 4:26

11-18-20

Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on the cause of your anger. Eph 4:26 (net)

Anger is a choice.
God wants us to choose to forgive others so our anger doesn’t evolve into hate and bitterness; both of which are provoked in our hearts by satan (Rom 12:19-21, Jas 1:19, Pro 14:29, Ecc 7:9, Eph 4:27).
If you do get angry with any one, see that the fire be cast with the utmost speed out of your bosom. Do not go to sleep with any unkind or unbrotherly feeling; anger, continued in, may produce malice and revenge (both of which are satanic behaviors) (Clarke commentary). ๐Ÿ™‚

Colossians 3:13

11-17-20

bearing with one another and forgiving one another, if someone happens to have a complaint against anyone else. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also forgive others. Col 3:13 (net)

God has made it perfectly clear: He wants us to be forgiving of others just as He has forgiven us (Matt 6:14-15, 18:21-22, 22:28, Mar 11:25). ๐Ÿ˜Œ
When we forgive others we demonstrate God’s love and His light shines through us as a witness to those around us! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Revelations 2:2 & 7

11-14-20

I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars; Let everyone listen to what the Spirit says to the churches. To everyone who conquers (overcomes evil through Jesus) I will give the privilege of eating from the tree of life that is in Godโ€™s paradise. Rev 2:2, 7 (kjv)

The implication from Revelation 2:2 & 7 is that the works of which Christ is concerned are the works of overcomingโ€”overcoming human nature or, as in I John 2:15-17, overcoming “the lust of the flesh, the lust of eyes, and the pride of life.” In addition, we must work to overcome the persecutions, deceits, and persuasions of Satan and the influences of the world, “The Berean“, 11-9-20.
Basically, since we are outclassed, outnumbered and outgunned in this spiritual battle (Eph 2:2, 6:12), it is impossible for us to overcome evil without God’s help (John 15:5, 1 John 4:4, 2 Chron 32:8). ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

Galatians 5:22-23

11-13-20

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things. Gal 5:22-23 (kjv)

Notice, Paul begins with love. This is the greatest attribute of God: one which He wants to develop in His children.
This is the love of your neighbor (Mark 12:31), and to love God (Luke 10:27, Psalm 31:23).
You should also love God’s word and be meditating on it daily (Psalm 1:2, 119:140, 2 Tim 2:8).
And finally, we should love fellowshipping with God (1 Cor 1:9, 2 Cor 13:14). ๐Ÿ˜

James 4:10

Humble yourselves before the Lord and he will exalt you. Jas 4:10 (net)

(Humility is) either not to arrogate (take credit) to himself what does not belong to him, and detract from others, who may have equal, if not superior, abilities to him; or not to glory (brag) in what he has, as if he had not received it, and as if it was altogether owing to his own sagacity, penetration, diligence, and industry; (Gill commentary).
Humility is simply thinking more of others than yourself (Rom 12:3, Pro 16:19).
God wants His children to be humble (Psalm 51:17, 138:6, 1 Peter 3:8). ๐Ÿ˜Œ

Proverbs 11:2

11-11-20

When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom. Pro 11:2 (net)

The proud hypocrite deceives himself into ignoring realities in the conduct of his life that the meek and humble person quickly recognizes and takes into account.
The proud person’s vanity pushes him into conduct that will end in shame, “The Berean”, 11-7-20.
People are foolish to try to get rich by dishonest methods, because dishonesty brings judgment from which riches cannot save (Bridgeway commentary).
When pride enters your heart; love, compassion, generosity and all other Godly characteristics leave, since pride and humility are mutually exclusive.
Pride opens the door to your soul for satan and his evil influence (Rom 1:21, 1 John 2:16, Job 35:12, Psalm 10:4, 58:12, Pro 8:13, 16:18), and God will not live in the same heart with satan (1 Cor 10:21, 2 Cor 6:15-17, Isa 42:8). โ˜น๏ธ

John 4:23

11-10-20

Yet the time is coming, and is now here, when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth. Indeed, the Father is looking for people like that to worship him. John 4:23 (isv)

Worship service is a term often used to describe a Sunday morning gathering of a church. But is real worship actually happening there? God isnโ€™t looking for attendees to fill up the pews; Heโ€™s seeking true worshipers.

Spirit means our praise can never be simply another item on our to-do list. Authentic worship is not an obligation, burden, or some weekly task, but rather a total spiritual recognition of Godโ€™s gracious loving kindness and divine majesty.

Truth means that worship is not just an emotional experience. Unless it is based on the truth of Godโ€™s Word, then all we have is a soothing sentimental feeling. And that kind of experience will neither last nor promote the spiritual growth God desires for us. “In Touch Ministries”, 11-7-20.
