I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars; Let everyone listen to what the Spirit says to the churches. To everyone who conquers (overcomes evil through Jesus) I will give the privilege of eating from the tree of life that is in God’s paradise. Rev 2:2, 7 (kjv)
The implication from Revelation 2:2 & 7 is that the works of which Christ is concerned are the works of overcoming—overcoming human nature or, as in I John 2:15-17, overcoming “the lust of the flesh, the lust of eyes, and the pride of life.” In addition, we must work to overcome the persecutions, deceits, and persuasions of Satan and the influences of the world, “The Berean“, 11-9-20.
Basically, since we are outclassed, outnumbered and outgunned in this spiritual battle (Eph 2:2, 6:12), it is impossible for us to overcome evil without God’s help (John 15:5, 1 John 4:4, 2 Chron 32:8). 😟
